Autonomous at the Grand Slam: Renault and WeRide Bring Robobus Back to Roland-Garros
Paris, June 3, 2025 – While the world’s top tennis players compete for the title at the prestigious Roland-Garros tournament, innovation is also in motion off the court: For the second consecutive year, Renault Group and Chinese tech company WeRide are teaming up to bring autonomous mobility to life — reintroducing the Robobus around the Paris stadium grounds.
Level 4 Autonomy in Action
The Robobus service operates along a 2.8-kilometer route that connects key locations in about 12 minutes. Running daily, the shuttle navigates autonomously — without a driver, but with maximum precision and safety.
New this year is a night service from 10 PM to midnight, extending access for visitors. The buses safely navigate through low-light urban environments and unpredictable traffic — a true stress test for autonomous technology.
Technology Meets the Real World — with a European Focus
For WeRide CEO Tony Han, the renewed partnership with Renault is a strong sign that their system is ready for real-world deployment:
“Our technology is ready for everyday use — and Europe is a key growth market for us.”
Renault shares this confidence. Patrick Vergelas, Autonomous Mobility Project Manager at Renault Group, adds:
“Together with WeRide, we’re proving that autonomous mobility is no longer just a promise — it’s already a reality.”
Why This Matters
- Future made tangible: Visitors experience autonomous transportation in action — safely and seamlessly.
- Scalability: The partnership aims beyond event logistics, targeting broader deployment across Europe.
- Strong collaboration: Renault and WeRide are deepening their relationship to expand autonomous solutions.
Conclusion
While records are being set on the clay court, Renault and WeRide are setting new standards in urban mobility behind the scenes. The Robobus isn’t just a tech showcase — it’s a real glimpse into the near future of our streets.
